I’ve found entire bicycles that were in perfect condition and someone just didn’t want it!! I don’t consider that scrap metal…one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

As mentioned before, some people will go as far as an hour out of their way to get the best scrap pricing around; it can really make a big difference. You can find scrap metal price lists online as well for your community. Some websites will even show the weight of the scrap metal compared to the amount of money they’ll give you. Also keep in mind that some dealers prefer certain types of scrap metal over others, so that means that the price can vary greatly depending on who you see although overall you will see that the  list will be the same.

Many junkyards will have a large “scrap metal prices chart” or picture of the current list showing what they’ll pay for certain items. You can get a copy of this list from them or have them order you one so you can have your own. Scrap pricing is possibly the most important aspect of collecting scrap metal because if you work hard only to get ripped off then you’ve only wasted your time. Make sure that you take your time, do your research, to ensure you’re getting the best price for your area. I know people that have been collecting scrap metal for upwards of ten years and could get a MUCH better scrap metal price if they just simply did a little more research and changed a few things. In the world of scrap metal collecting  it’s usually not one small thing that you change but a number of small things that really add up to a big scrap metal price cash in.

This is an example what a typical scrap metal price list for aluminum cans would be.

 Scrap Metal Price List

You can make around 60k a year or more in scrap metal collecting and only have to collect three times a week. I make a couple of trips to my scrap metal price dealer and cash in. This is much less work than going to work every day and working for 8 hours. My first year I was only making around 10k a year at the most but it takes time to learn the ropes in scrap metal collecting. If I had to say one thing that was most important for getting a good deal would recommend finding the best location for collecting your scrap metal and keeping an eye on the scrap metal price list. But how do you find that? I found it by building a good relationship with my scrap metal price dealer and then he began to tell me where other people were collecting. this skyrocketed the scrap metal price I was getting because the scrap metal was of higher quality than what it used to be and I was able to find more of it. So maybe I should say that the most important part is building a good relationship with your dealer.

Another way I have heard of (but never tried myself) that people maximize their scrap metal prices is by contacting a stock broker. They can more easily predict the scrap metal price’s and what’s going to happen. Stock brokers can view the scrap metal prices list and make accurate predictions as to where it’s headed. If scrap metal price is going to go down then you want to sell your scrap metal asap. If scrap metal price is going to go up then you may want to hold off on your visit to your scrap metal price dealer. But what happens is people hold off on going to their scrap metal price dealer because they know it’s going to go up, and then the price goes up because nobody is selling! It’s actually very complicated and can be really tricky. I prefer to just sell to my dealer as soon as I obtain my load. But then again I don’t have the luxry of being able to store my scrap metal.

What this all comes down to is be honest, build a good relationship, know the scrap metal price list, and don’t hold out on your dealer or you’ll end up being the one paying the price!
